Printer Problems
Question 1:
My production reports are now printing bar codes where it used to print the design name. How can I correct this?
Answer 1:
To suppress the barcode printing on your production worksheet you will need to remove the barcode font from Windows. Follow these steps.
Right-click Start
Select Explore
Navigate to c:\Windows\Fonts
Find FREE3OF9.TTF and either delete this font or move it to another location.

What happened to Wilcom ES?

Wilcom's long standing industry champion software ES was replaced with a new generation platform called Embroidery Studio. Embroidery Studio integrates CorelDraw and takes Wilcom one step closer to being a complete decorated apparel program. The new version has significant improvements, compared to v2006 and it presents a fundamental new appraoch based on the successful DecoStudio e1.0 product making CorelDraw X6 a integral part of the embroidery software at all levels.

New purchases and updates are shipped two day delivery. Shipments are made the next business after the payment clears. Upgrades are usually emailed the next business day after the payment clears.

Updates

What is an update?
Answer 1:
Every few years a new software version is released. These releases include new technology and program enhancements. There is normally a fee required to update your software.
Question 2:
Will I get a new security device when I update?
Answer 2:
Yes, a new security device (dongle) will be physically shipped and a set of codes will be emailed.
Question 3:
How important is it that I update my software?
Answer 3:
While updating is not a life or death situation, it is recommended to update your software. Updates ensure your system is using code which is current with today's operating systems. Wilcom updates its systems every 3 years or so. This means you won't be encuring an update cost every year.
Upgrades
Question 1:
What is an ugrade?
Answer 1:
An upgrade is when you elect to move up from one level of software to the next. Higher levels of software contain more advanced features.

What would an upgrade cost?

No, upgrades do not require a new security device. A set of codes will be emailed and once these codes are installed the upgrade features will be automatically enabled.

Operating System Compatibility
Wilcom ES Software and Operating System compatibility ('#' = exceptions)
Users of 64-bit Operating Systems please note : ES Version 9 and below have not been officially tested under 64-bit operating systems. ES 2006 (with Service Pack 4 Revision 2) will run on 64-bit operating systems such as Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista 64-bit as these operating systems can still run 32-bit applications natively. Note that some Windows Server x64 operating systems running on 64-bit CPUs are not able to run 32-bit applications like Wilcom ES 2006 without hardware emulation.
Microsoft Vista For full compatibility with Vista, ES Designer 2006 with Vista Update or Service Pack 4 or higher is needed.
#1: Limitations of ES Designer and EMBroidery TrueSizer under Win 2000/NT:
Wilcom ES Designer V6.1 and Wilcom EMBroidery TrueSizer V6.1: No Program Group or Desktop shortcut icons will be created when Wilcom ES Designer or Wilcom EMBroidery TrueSizer V6.1 is installed under Win2000/NT. These icons will need to be manually created by the user by creating new shortcuts to the ES.EXE (ES Designer) or EMB*.EXE (.EMBroidery) executable program files. Non-DOS Embroidery disk formats are supported.
#2: Windows 95: Although they should work without problems, ES Designer V7.0, Design Warehouse V7.0 and TrueSizer V7.0 and later are not officially supported if installed under Windows 95.
#3: Windows ME: Windows ME is not recommended for use with Wilcom ES Designer or Wilcom EMBroidery TrueSizer. You may encounter some undocumented problems if using Wilcom ES Designer or Wilcom EMBroidery TrueSizer under Windows ME.
#4: Windows 2000 and Windows XP: Melco disk format is not supported under WinXP, 2000 or NT.
#5: Windows Vista: You need to install Service Pack 4 or later. The "Vista Update" patch was released before SP4.
Melco machine direct connection: Melco machine direct connection is not supported under WinME, 2000, NT or XP by any Wilcom ES Designer version.
MAC OS X / Apple Computers There is currently no ES Designer version that can run under the MAC OS but if you have an Intel-based MAC, you can run bootcamp and run Microsoft Windows. Simply install ES under your Windows partition. ES has been tested under those circumstances successfully, however, machine connections have not been tested under that scenario and embroidery disks (floppy disks) have not been tested either.
Non-DOS embroidery disks Since the embroidery industry was one of the first to make use of computers and before DOS was the accepted disk format, there are many 'non-DOS' formats still in common use within the embroidery industry. These non-DOS embroidery formats e.g. Barudan FDR, Melco, format the floppy disk differently and cannot be read as 'DOS-formatted' disks and must be read as their own format e.g. the same way as an Apple MAC Operating system is required to read a MAC-formatted disk.
